Q: Do you have any style inspirations?

A: My grandmother “Mimi”. She is always dressed to the nines. She’s 98 years young and still fabulous as ever. She taught me you can never be overdressed and the beauty of confidence.

Q: Your business recently celebrated 5 years of operation. Congratulations!! How does it feel to reach such a milestone? What lesson or nugget of wisdom do you wish you could pass to your 5-years-ago self?

A: Thank you! It’s a huge accomplishment and I could not be more proud. My one piece of advice is...trust your gut. It sounds so simple but it’s actually really hard sometimes to do it and pull the trigger when needed. The times when things have not gone right is when I didn’t go with my gut instinct on something. It’s amazing how powerful it is.

Q: Describe your personal style.

A: Feminine & Fun. Someone once said I'm always dressed like I‘m on vacation and I kind of love that.

Q: What does a day in the life of Megan Molten normally look like?

A: Oh goodness it’s a lot! The mornings at our house are a little hectic with our two baby girls getting up, getting ready for school, and getting out the door by 8:30. I try and squeeze in a work out at home before I head to the office. I usually start my day with a morning meeting with one of my teams, then eat a quick lunch at my desk while catching up on emails and phone calls with potential clients and brand collaborations. Then I‘ll try and film something for social channels in our shop and catch up with my design team in the afternoon to review anything they have been working on for clients. I leave the office by 5 to pick the girls up from school and head home to have a quick snack and take a walk around our neighborhood. The girls have dinner, bath, books, and bed then Hugh cooks us dinner and I usually hop on my computer to buy for the shop while we watch one of our shows. If I can squeeze in a bath on our spa porch that’s definitely a bonus at the end of the day! Then bed and do it all again…

Q: Are interior design and personal style related? If so, have you seen this connection manifest in any of your projects or with any of your clients?

A: Absolutely. I‘ve always loved fashion since I was a little girl. I really always thought that I would work in fashion honestly, but my love for fashion is what led me to design. I had a personal style that was very clean, light, bright, airy, and coastal and that reflected in my decor and design choices. It happened to be a style that a lot of people loved and that’s how my business was born. I‘m constantly inspired by fashion and the trends we see in that world translate over to the design world. For example, purple is having such a moment in both industries right now. It’s become one of my favorite colors to wear and use in our design projects. I honestly NEVER thought that I would say that but that’s the beauty of what we do I guess--it’s always evolving and I feel that my style is too.

Q: What trends (fashion or interior design) are you eyeing this year?

A: COLOR-more color. Everything was all white for a moment and now clients are ready for prints, pattern and color! I‘m here for it. I‘ve also been more open to color in my wardrobe where before I was very monochromatic. It’s been so much fun to try new things.

Q: What does a day in the life of the Store Director look like?

A: Every day looks a little different! It always starts with a cup of green tea (just like my grandmother) and is filled with lots of check-ins and time with the team, laughter, celebrating small wins, welcoming clients to the store, and obsessing over new arrivals. I am definitely guilty of cracking a dad joke at morning meeting daily. I absolutely love the Hampden team because everyone has a different story, perspective, energy and, of course, sense of style.

Q: How did you become Hampden's Store Director?

A: I have been admiring Hampden from afar since 2019. I moved to Charleston to get my MBA at the College of Charleston. I knew of Hampden's reputation in the industry and started listening to and reading any interviews Stacy did. It is a dream come true to harness my creativity and strategic mindset in an organization led by a female entrepreneur! I am so honored to be apart of the Hampden team.
