lemlem: more than just swim

Inspired by the vibrant colors and patterns found in her home country of Ethiopia, supermodel Liya Kebede founded lemlem in 2007. After noticing that local artisans and weavers were experiencing a decrease in demand for their goods, Kebede built lemlem to preserve their art forms and benefit their local economies by introducing their goods to a new consumer base. At its core, lemlem is an artisan-driven brand with the goal of preserving heritage weaving methods while driving growth for the artisans' local economies.

With production in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Morocco, lemlem is one of the first international brands made entirely in Africa. Their resortwear and cover-ups are all hand-woven cotton, resulting in pieces that are  comfortable without sacrificing luxury. lemlem's swimwear is also sustainably produced out of polyester fibers made from recycled plastic bottles and a regenerated nylon made from ocean and landfill waste.
