Busayo

Busayo

Busayo Olupona started Busayo because of her belief in the power of color to communicate the dynamism, personality, and nuances of the individual. Olupona grew up in Nigeria and wanted to continue to explore African traditions and the ways in which past traditions inform the present. Textiles are a rich medium to connect the past with the present. Busayo collections feature "adire", a traditional Yoruba textile dyeing technique that began in Southwest Nigeria at the turn of the 20th century. The Busayo team is fascinated by Adire. In fact, they are obsessed. The techniques which involve tie/dye and/or batik allow them to play with color and texture in all sorts of varieties. They can create fabrics that are unique and radically different that what is commercially available. Busayo makes all of their fabrics and love the process of transforming a blank canvas into a rich colorful expression of creativity.
